Google Sky

What is Google Sky?

Google Sky is a part of the Google Earth application. It allows you to visually browse sources, pan, obtain complementary data from other telescopes, find summary information about astronomical objects, and zoom in and out as needed to get to the resolution that you need. You can also now use Google Sky to monitor the NVO and be notified of transient astronomical events, including gamma ray bursts and microlensing events. After you have Google Sky installed, just download the NVO KMZ network feed and open it in the Google Sky application to monitor transients.

How Do I Get My Science Images on Google Sky?

Any press-release quality images that are submitted to the NRAO Image Gallery or that appear in NRAO press releases will automatically be considered for Google Sky. Other FITS images can also be converted to the format that is viewable in Google Sky. Please contact us if you have some science results from NRAO telescopes, or interesting projects that included an NRAO instrument in addition to other instruments. We will be glad to provide you personalized service.
