We are calling for nominations of individuals to serve on the Science Organizing Committee (SOC) that will guide the initial planning for the upcoming VLA Sky Survey (VLASS). The SOC will be primarily charged with review of White Papers received in response to the recent call, and with organization of the NRAO Very Large Array Sky Survey Science Planning Workshop, to be held on January 5, 2014, immediately prior to the upcoming 223rd meeting of the American Astronomical Society at National Harbor, MD. The SOC will also be tasked with setting up the community-led Science Survey Group (SSG) that will define the science program and key components of the VLASS.
Please send your nomination via email to vlass AT nrao.edu, or use the Nomination Submissions link (https://science.nrao.edu/science/survey ... ubmissions) on the left sidebar menu of the VLASS page. Self nominations are welcome. The nomination should include name and contact information, including institutional affiliation, and a one paragraph statement giving any relevant interest and experience. Self nominations should also include a brief Curriculum Vitae (CV).
Colleagues who can represent the diverse interests of potential VLASS users, including those from multiple wavelength regimes, or colleagues who have expertise in sky survey planning and oversight, or those with interest in any of the science areas that would benefit from the VLASS, are all good candidates for the SOC. If you find this opportunity to participate in and enable the creation and definition of this next-generation large radio-wavelength survey compelling, or know of someone who would be an excellent candidate, please consider responding to this nomination call.
Stefi Baum, Chair, VLASS Science Organizing Committee
Steve Myers, Lead, VLASS Survey Design Group
