Welcome to the Transients & Variability Working Group!

Hi all,

The design of a possible next-generation VLA Sky Survey (VLASS) are underway. The proposed scope of this survey is such that the potential return for radio transient science is unprecedented. Of course, 'radio transient science' is a catch-all term that doesn't properly encapsulate the wide breadth of phenomenon on all timescales that could be probed with such a survey. We would like to solicit input from the community on specific science questions that can be addressed through studies of transient phenomenon with VLASS. How would VLASS be optimally designed [frequency, depth, survey area, cadence, location on sky] for each class of transients? What are the outstanding technical requirements for a survey that enables the science cases put forward by the wider community and simultaneously maximizes transient science?

If you would like to contribute to this effort or just be kept up to date, you can join the Transients & Variability Working Group here - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1r7S7xW ... 4/viewform.
