The NRAO facilities in Charlottesville, Virginia include the Headquarters for the entire Observatory, the North American ALMA Science Center and the NRAO Technology Center (NTC)/Central Development Laboratory (CDL).
The town of Socorro is the home of NRAO operations in New Mexico (NM) and serves as the NRAO base of operations for both the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) and the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA).

The NRAO was founded in Green Bank, West Virginia (WV) in 1956. The Observatory's current facilities in Green Bank include the world's largest fully-steerable radio telescope, the 110m x 100m Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope, and the Green Bank Science Center.
The NRAO/AUI office in downtown Santiago, Chile was founded in 1998 to support the interests of the NRAO and its parent organization, Associated Universities, Inc. in Chile, particularly the North American participation in the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array project.
