Transportation

Getting to Socorro

Given that there is no registration fee, we cannot provide transportation to Socorro. Therefore, you are on your own for transportation from and to Albuquerque airport.  Your best option is:

  • Rental Car - All major rental companies are located at Albuquerque airport. For directions to Socorro, please refer to our Directions and Maps page.

Albuquerque-based taxis will sometimes agree to take passengers to Socorro. If they do and there are several passengers a taxi might be an option. Uber may be another option to consider.

In case you can offer a ride to Socorro, or are looking for one, we created the Google Group 2019 VLA DRW Logistics. Contact the workshop organizer if you wish to be invited to join this group. Once joined, please post or reply in the discussions using the same email address that you used to accept the invitation. We are offering this as a courtesy, but do not closely monitor its activity. When sharing rides there is always the risk of missing and delayed flights for which NRAO cannot be held responsible.

Important Note: The workshop will overlap in time with the International Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta (5 - 13 October 2019), which draws many visitors to New Mexico via the airport in Albuquerque. We therefore urge you to make and secure your travel plans (airline and rental car) as early as possible.
