Getting to Socorro

Given that there is no registration fee, we cannot provide transportation to Socorro. Therefore, you are on your own for transportation from and to Albuquerque airport.  Options are:

  • Rental Car, by far the best and easiest option - All major rental companies are located at Albuquerque airport. Contact details for car companies are provided on the airport webpage: https://www.abqsunport.com/rental-cars/

For directions to Socorro, please refer to our Directions and Maps page.

  •  An alternative is American Transportation (formerly known as Socorro Taxi). The cost is approximately $95 one-way per person, and arrangements will be the responsibility of the traveler. Please visit their webpage for details. Additional Albuquerque-based taxi and ride share services are also possible. A complete list can be found here: https://www.abqsunport.com/ground-transportation/

In case you can offer a ride to Socorro, or are looking for one, we created the Google Group 2022 VLA DRW Logistics. Anyone should be able to join the group, but if this does not work, please contact the workshop organizers. Once joined, please post or reply in the discussions using the same email address that you used to accept the invitation. We are offering this as a courtesy, but do not closely monitor its activity. When sharing rides there is always the risk of missing and delayed flights for which NRAO cannot be held responsible.
