Cox Appointed ALMA Director
The ALMA Board announced 14 Nov that Pierre Cox has been appointed as the next ALMA Director. Cox has been the Director of the Institut de Radioastronomie Millimetrique (IRAM) since 2006. IRAM operates the Plateau de Bure Interferometer near Grenoble, France, and a 30m telescope on Pico Veleta, Spain, both telescopes observing at mm-wavelengths. Cox will take up duty on 1 Apr 2013, for a period of five years, at the end of Thijs de Graauw’s term. Thijs de Graauw has been ALMA Director since 2008 and took the observatory past many milestones in his 5-year term, including the start of science observations, in 2011.
