NAASC Conference and Workshop Support

by Dong-Chan Kim last modified Aug 03, 2020 by Loreto Barcos

The North American ALMA Science Center (NAASC) invites scientists from North American institutions (US and Canada) to apply for funding in support of upcoming conferences and workshops, including virtual events. There is no restriction on the size of the meeting, and any wavelength and/or topic are welcome. The NAASC will provide monetary funding (up to $25,000) to organize an inclusive event, encouraging the participation of students, postdocs, and early career researchers as well as promoting diversity within the scientific community. The NAASC will also be able to provide logistical support (e.g., webinar platform, setting up the website event, handling registration, NRAO auditorium (see COVID-19 note below), etc.), if needed.

The main responsibilities of the awardees may include:

  1. Submit a brief summary reporting on the impact of the event including: number and seniority of participants, noting the diversity of the attendees, event's website, a copy of the program, main highlights, etc. Report is due within 2 months after the event.
  2. Acknowledge the NAASC as one of the sponsors of the event.
  3. Provide a detailed description indicating how the funding was spent. Note that NRAO cannot provide funding to buy alcohol, and can only transfer money to an institution or vendor.

To apply for funding simply email the NAASC at and provide details of the conference and requested funding and/or logistical support, if needed. Decisions will be announced up to 4-6 weeks of submission.

Due to the current pandemic NRAO is not hosting face-to-face meetings until further notice. We highly encourage applications for virtual meetings, and proposals on how to best use the NAASC funding in such cases.

If you are planning an event and need advise developing your idea, or have further questions, please contact the NAASC at
