ALMA Community Day Event at the University of Hawaii

NRAO Live! Event at the University of Wisconsin in Madison

Date: April 4, 2017
Time: 9am - 5pm
Location: IfA Auditorium (C-214)

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and ALMA Ambassadors cordially invite you to an ALMA Proposal Workshop at the IfA at the University of Hawaii. This event is designed for all astronomers, and in particular for those who do not regularly utilize radio data in their research. The one-day workshop will provide an overview of ALMA and the Cycle 5 capabilities, a brief discussion of mm interferometry, and an overview of the proposal preparation and submission processes. In the afternoon there will be a hands-on session to prepare proposals for the upcoming ALMA Cycle 5 deadline on April 20th, 2017. We will dive into interferometric data taken with ALMA and use CASA to reduce and analyze the data. Lunch will be provided for registered participants.

It is also possible to follow the workshop remotely through the Zoom system. Please indicate this in the registration form. Furthermore, if you are unable to participate for the full day, you are welcome to attend for a part of the program. Please register as well in that case.

For the hands-on session in the afternoon, it is convenient if all participants have installed and tested the ALMA Observing Tool (Cycle 5 OT will be available after March 21st) on their laptops beforehand. If you have any problems, please contact Nienke van der Marel (marel_at_hawaii.edu or C-103) by April 3rd.

Registration is free, but we'd greatly appreciate it if you could sign up before April 1 so that we have an accurate count for lunches!

We look forward to seeing you at the IfA!

-Nienke van der Marel (ALMA Ambassador)
