The NRAO Green Bank

The NRAO Green Bank site consists of a 2700 acre tract located between the villages of Green Bank on the south and Arbovale on the north, and the Monongahela National Forest on the west. Although the Observatory's mailing address is Green Bank, the main campus of buildings is closer to Arbovale. Most of the Observatory staff members work in the Jansky Laboratory. A number of others work in theMachine Shop and Plant Maintenance / Works area. The site includes a cafeteria and residence hall, and a recreation area. Find NRAO site map here.

The Observatory maintains 24 family-sized rental houses, and is constructiong 5 new townhomes for its professional staff. The houses are marked on the site map. Rental rates are set to be comparable to the private rates in this region of West Virginia. The availability of Observatory houses varies, and can be discussed with the site Business Administration Office.

There are 5579 housing units in Pocahontas County and 1346 are located in the Green Bank area. The availability of private rental housing in the area varies, as does the real estate sales market. The site Business Administration office can be of assistance in locating properties to rent and in suggesting real estate agents.
