Cornell 2017

NRAO Community Day at the GSFC

NRAO, GBO, and LBO will conduct a two day Community Event hosted by Cornell University on July 10 and 11, 2017. The program is designed for up to 30 participants.

Please register using the Registration link on the left. We accept participants in the order their registrations are received by us. The registration deadline is June 30, 2017.

An important part of a Community Day are the hands-on sessions, including observation preparation and data reduction. Therefore, it is very important for participants to do the following well prior to the Community Day (it is very unlikely you will be able to install AIPS/CASA and download data during the Community Day):

  1. To be able to prepare and submit VLA/VLBA/GBT proposals, register at the NRAO user database if you have not done so yet.
  2. Fill out the form at https://info.nrao.edu/oas/dpscompliance so that accounts can be set up to access the Green Bank system for the GBT tutorial.
  3. Bring a laptop.
  4. Download and install CASA 4.7.2.
  5. Download the various demo data and files we will be using during the observation preparation and data reduction tutorials. Firefox browser is preferred for this, or use the ftp instructions at go.nrao.edu/vla-we
  6. For VLBA AIPS tutorial, if you have a Mac please check if you have X11 by:
  • Bring up spotlight and type “XQuartz” and if you have it, it will come up if not:
