How to reach INAOE, Tonantzintla:
Route via Mexico City airport
Most international flights come to the international airport Benito Juarez in Mexico City. There is a direct bus service, offered by the bus liner Estrella Roja (www.estrellaroja.com.mx), from the Mexico City airport to Puebla, with a 30 minute frequency during the day. In Puebla, buses reach a friendly bus terminal at 4 Poniente, where pre-paid taxi service is available. The cost of one-way bus ticket is 300 Mexican pesos. It will take 2 to 2.5 hours to reach Puebla, depending on the traffic on the way.
Your destination for the taxi is San Pedro Cholula if you go to one of the suggested hotels. Alternatively, if you choose to go directly to our campus you would then ask to be driven to INAOE at Tonantzintla or Instituto Nacional de Astrofisica, Optica y Electronica. Our campus is also popularly known as Tonantzintla Observatory. The taxi ride takes about 30-40 minutes. The cost should be about 200 Mexican pesos.
Route via direct flight to Puebla
You may also fly directly to Puebla from Dallas or Houston, and then take a taxi at the Puebla airport to the hotel or the Institute, as noted above. The price should be about 250 - 300 Mexican pesos.
Weather Information
Puebla is located in a valley flanked by volcanoes at an altitude of about 2200 meters above the mean sea level. This results in a significant difference in temperature between day and night. It is usually warm during the day but the temperature drops after sunset. September marks the end of the rainy season, and generally it is pleasant. Nevertheless be prepared for sunny, rainy or cold weather.
