Travel to Green Bank

The Green Bank Observatory is located about 200 miles west of Dulles International Airport (IAD), about 4 hours door-to-door by car.  It is generally the most convenient airport to use as smaller more nearby airports have fewer flight options and are more affected by vagaries of weather. Other airport options are Pittsburgh (PIT) and Charlottesville, VA (CHO).

We will try to coordinate travel from the airports to the Observatory. We may be able to arrange a shuttle from IAD if there is enough demand.

If you are driving please see the map below. Because of recent construction, we recommend Option 1 when traveling from the Washington DC area or the Northeast US.
