What to bring & prepare

  • To participate in the tutorial sessions, we ask you to bring a personal laptop and download two software packages before the workshop: CASA and CARTA. Please try to install the software before the workshop, but there will be some time during the introduction to download if needed.

For detailed instructions to download and test CARTA and CASA please follow this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Esl6JAGG0U09WWP4uSe-bRyAwWFm1x4JO2lUHpGtas8/edit?usp=sharing

  • Note: we will use a dedicated ALMA data set for the tutorials, but you are welcome to try the tasks on your own data or archival data during the workshop. However, if you are new to ALMA data processing we recommend that you first attempt the methods within either the CARTA/CASA environments using the tutorial dataset (for TW Hya).

Traveling to UT

  • For those traveling from outside of Austin, we highly recommend carpooling where possible.
  • Unfortunately we cannot reimburse travel costs for your trip, but we encourage asking your own department for travel support.
  • For those coming by car, the Speedway Garage is the nearest parking lot: https://parking.utexas.edu/parking/garages/speedway-garage-swg, and there is paid street parking near PMA. Please reach out if you need any assistance!

Arriving at UT

  • The event will be held in PMA 15.216B, in the astronomy classroom.
  • We will begin at 9am, but there will be some buffer time in the morning. Feel free to drop in and out of the workshop for various sessions.
  • There will be cold brew and tea available all day!

Zoom and recording info

  • The zoom link will be sent to registered participants over email.
  • The recording will be provided after the event along with any resources and tutorials.
