Program

This two-day workshop will include an introduction to mm/submm interferometric observing techniques, ALMA science, and capabilities. It will then focus on the tools and methods used to process ALMA data from scratch, including data retrieval from the Science Archive, running the calibration pipeline, continuum and spectral line imaging, moment maps generation, and deriving physical quantities from these products. The workshop will include hands-on sessions using CASA and CARTA.
No prior experience with ALMA is required. The workshop will also feature a mini data challenge, with prizes from the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF). 
Participants are welcome to bring their own ALMA datasets, if any. The language of the workshop will be English, with the possibility to ask questions in English, Spanish, or French. Remote attendance will also be possible. The Zoom link will be shared with registered participants.

The NSF National Radio Astronomy Observatory and NSF Green Bank Observatory are facilities of the U.S. National Science Foundation operated under cooperative agreement by Associated Universities, Inc.

Founded in 1956, the NSF NRAO provides state-of-the-art radio telescope facilities for use by the international scientific community. NSF NRAO telescopes are open to all astronomers regardless of institutional or national affiliation. Observing time on NSF NRAO telescopes is available on a competitive basis to qualified scientists after evaluation of research proposals on the basis of scientific merit, the capability of the instruments to do the work, and the availability of the telescope during the requested time. NSF NRAO also provides both formal and informal programs in education and public outreach for teachers, students, the general public, and the media.
