Io’s Volcanic Activity as seen through Multi-Wavelength Observations

Abstract

Jupiter’s moon Io is a most fascinating body. Whenever we observe it, there always are volcanic eruptions somewhere on its surface. Although we understand why it is volcanically active, there still are many questions about its internal structure, its atmosphere, and volcanic eruptions that we do not understand. In this talk I will discuss what we have learned over the past decades by observing this satellite at different wavelengths, from the UV through radio wavelengths, using telescopes including Keck, HST, JWST, Sofia, ALMA, and the VLA..
