Searching for X-ray Binary Outbursts with the Vera C. Rubin Observatory

Abstract

Beginning this fall, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory will undertake its Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). LSST will provide a time-domain catalog of the southern sky of unprecedented depth and cadence. Along with enabling many other science goals, these data will allow a deeper view of the optical variability of X-ray binaries (XRBs) in our Galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds. I will describe precursor science we have conducted with the Zwicky Transient Facility alert stream and detail the work of my team in preparing for LSST alert production. I will present initial LSST commissioning results from ComCam as well as plans for forthcoming data releases..
