The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center (NAIC) are organizing the 8th NAIC-NRAO school on Single-Dish Radio Astronomy in conjunction with, for the first time, a three-day school on interferometry organized by the NRAO North American ALMA Science Center (NAASC). These schools will be held from 5-14 July 2015 at the NRAO research facilities in Green Bank, West Virginia.

The objective of the schools are to provide graduate students, post-docs, and experts in other fields of astronomy with both knowledge and practical experience of the techniques and applications of single-dish radio astronomy using the Arecibo Telescope and the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT) as the two primary examples, and also interferometry, using ALMA as the primary example.

The schools will be based around an intensive series of lectures from experts, as well as hands-on radio-astronomy projects and tutorials. For the Single Dish School, students will make observations with either the Arecibo 305-m telescope or the 100-m GBT, analyze the data acquired, and interpret the results. For the interferometry school, we will use an ALMA dataset to learn about imaging and self-calibration using the Combined Astronomy Software Applications (CASA) package.
