NRAO Observations of the First Submillimeter Galaxy and the Status of ARGUS on the GBT

I will present ALMA and VLA imaging observations of the very first sub-millimeter galaxy (SMG) discovered with a confirmed counterpart, SMMJ02399-0136 at z=2.8.  Over the ~20 years since its initial discovery, studies indicate the system is a merger of two ultraluminous infrared sources and contains many of the diverse elements that are found in samples of SMGs (e.g., multiple-component starburst, AGN, extremely red object, large Ly-alpha cloud, and feedback from a QSO-driven outflow).  High-resolution VLA radio imaging along with the recent ALMA continuum and molecular gas observations of the system suggests a radio jet from the QSO may be inducing (or enhancing) star-formation in the nearby extremely red starburst source.

I will also present the status of ARGUS which is scheduled to be installed on the GBT in March 2016.  ARGUS is a 16-element focal-plane array that operates from 80-116 GHz.
