Lessons Learned from the former LSST Data Management Project Manager (What I wish I had done better....)
Abstract
I was the Project Manager for LSST Data Management for almost 12 years from 2004 - 2016. During this time, the project went from an embryonic state through Concept Design, Preliminary Design, and Final Design Reviews, achieved MREFC funding, and started Construction. While the outcome has been very good overall, the process has not been without challenges and, as with any complex endeavor, quite a few things could have gone smoother. I will present my perspective on things that I would have done differently in retrospect, in the hope that others following this type of path will have an easier time of it.
