Searching for New Pulsars for the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves

Abstract:

The North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) is an effort to detect gravitational waves at nanohertz frequencies using an array of millisecond pulsars (MSPs). I will describe the current status of NANOGrav and some of the ongoing efforts to increase the sensitivity of the timing array by finding new high-quality MSPs. There are multiple ongoing large area surveys to find new MSPs, including the Green Bank North Celestial Cap (GBNCC) and the Arecibo 327-MHz Drift Scan (AO327) surveys. I will describe these two surveys and present their current status.
