Molecular gas in the inner regions of the Milky Way Galaxy
Abstract
Molecular gas in the inner regions of the Milky Way galaxy exhibit more extreme physical characteristics (e.g., higher density, warmer gas) than gas in the Galactic disk. These unusual properties are typically only found in other galaxy centers and in high redshift galaxies (z~2-3) when star formation peaked in the universe. However, the distances to these external galaxies makes resolving individual clouds and cores challenging. In my talk I will present an overview of how molecular gas is transported across the inner regions of the Milky Way galaxy and discuss recent results of the molecular gas characteristics in this inner region of the galaxy. I will also highlight some key science questions that NRAO facilities can contribute to addressing in the upcoming observing semesters.
