Combined with vast ancillary data from the HST, Spitzer, Herschel, Chandra, and ground-based telescopes, as well as low-frequency VLA imaging, the VLA 10GHz Survey of GOODS-N will facilitate a large number of studies of galaxy evolution.
- Exploring the properties of main-sequence and starburst galaxies at high redshift by measuring their radio spectral indices and resolving sizes to measure the compactness of star formation.
- Investigating inside-out galaxy disk formation scenarios by comparing radio and optical/Hα disk profiles.
- Illuminating the relationship between AGN and star formation over cosmic time through robust measurements of brightness temperatures, radio spectral indices, and polarization for hundreds of sources.
- The unknown: the VLA 10GHz Survey of GOODS-N explores an uncharted region of observational parameter space by making the first deep, high-resolution, large-area map at 10 GHz. Hence, this survey yields the possibility of finding new classes of faint, flat-spectrum sources missed in deep 1.4 GHz surveys, as well as a further exploration with the data using the polarization information and stacking analyses.
