Data Reduction Workshop Socorro Spring 2012

NRAO is organizing the next Data Reduction Workshop from 22 February - 1 March 2012 at the Pete V. Domenici Science Operations Center in Socorro, NM.  The aim of the workshop is to help participants cope with the new data reduction challenges posed by the increasing power and complexity of the EVLA.  The focus will be on reducing data with the new wide bandwidths available to the observing community since September 20, 2011..

There are two distinct parts:

  1. A three day workshop (22 - 24 February 2012) with presentations about current advanced topics in Data Reduction and hands-on tutorials.  This is much like the September 2011 workshop.  The maximum number of participants is 40 (2 per workstation); we will give precedence to those who did not attend the September 2011 workshop
  2. A four-day workshop (27 February - 1 March 2012) during which participants are given the opportunity to reduce their own data while NRAO staff is available for consultation.  The maximum number of participants is 30 (one per workstation); we will give precedence to those who attended either the September 2011 or the February 22 - 24 2012 workshop.

Those interested are welcome to register for part 1, part 2, or both, but keep in mind the various precedences as described under points 1 and 2 above.

This is an advanced workshop, and unlike our Synthesis Imaging Workshops, is not intended for those who are new to radio interferometry.  Prior experience with AIPS, CASA, or Miriad is required.  We will be using CASA as our main data reduction package, but may use AIPS as well for some process steps, as needed.  A working knowledge of CASA would be helpful.

There is no registration fee, and we provide no transportation to Socorro.  For directions, please refer to our Directions and Maps page.  The most common way to get from Albuquerque airport to Socorro is either by rental car, or by calling Socorro Taxi (1-800-991-4276) at least 24 hours ahead of time.  Finally, there is the New Mexico Railrunner (nmrailrunner.com), but it does not run frequently, and does not go further then Belen (half-way Albuquerque and Socorro).

Note that the next Synthesis Imaging Workshop will take place from May 29 - June 5, 2012.
