Workshop Venue

All plenary and breakout sessions will be held at the Macey Center on the campus of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMIMT).  A map of  NMIMT will be in your packet and available at the workshop.

The plenary sessions will be held in the Upper Lobby of Macey Center which is equipped with an LCD projector, projection screen and an audio system.

Seating will be arranged in round table format, each seat will be equipped with access to a 120v power outlet.  Breakout sessions will be held to the rear of the Upper Lobby and also in Copper Room North and South (downstairs off the lower lobby).

Workshop Fees

The Workshop Registration Fee is US $200.00. Registration for the workshop is through the 3D Cart and the NRAO Event Registration System, https://science.nrao.edu/science/meetings/2013-nsf-large-facility-operations-workshop/registration .   Registration fee includes a light fare each morning, lunch all three days, hors d’oeuvres at an informal reception on the 23^rd and a workshop dinner on the 24^th.

Computer Access

Wireless internet is available on the NMIMT campus.   Upon arrival you will be given a user name and password for wireless access.

Travel to Socorro

The Albuquerque International Sunport is the closest airport to Socorro.  Rental car is the recommended mode of transportation while there is a local shuttle service that can be used if preferred.

• Pick up rental car at Sunport Car Rental Center
• Car rental customer service counters and ready/return lots are located at the Sunport Car Rental Center, 3400 University SE
• Car rental shuttles provide transportation between the terminal building and the Car Rental Center
• The car rental shuttle is a free service
• Shuttles run every 5 minutes from the commercial lane located outside the 1st level of the airport terminal building
• Shuttle buses are handicap-accessible

American Transportation and Shuttle Service

The shuttle is operated by American Transportation (AT).   Contact AT directly at kshipley@socorrotaxi.com or sharon@socrrotaxi.com or call (800) 991-4276 or (575) 835-4276 (on weekends at (575) 418-0553).  A credit card number is required to guarantee your shuttle reservation.  If your flight is delayed or if you have decided not to use the shuttle service, contact AT immediately.  The driver will meet you at baggage claim one inside the Airport.

One way for this service is ~$75-80.

Driving directions from the Albuquerque Airport to Socorro:

From the car-rental facility, drive north to Sunport Blvd., turn left (west) on Sunport.  Proceed to the overpass and turn left at the stop sign.  Continue on I-25 South.   Socorro is 75 miles south of Albuquerque and is an hour drive.  Take the first exit (Exit 150) in to Socorro.  You will be on California Ave.  Conference hotels will both be on the left as you come into town.

Driving directions to Macey Center from hotels:

California Ave. Southbound to the first traffic light at the corner of Bullock (at Taco Bell).  Turn right (west) on Bullock.  After you pass the second 4-way stop sign, you will see the NMIMT Campus.  Continue, after you pass the third stop sign the road will curve to the left; you will see a sign on your right that says, Macey Center.

Socorro Weather:

The average daytime high temperature in the Socorro area at the end of April is approx. 70-75^oF, while the average nighttime temperature is approx. 35-40 ^oF.
