The I/O stack in High Performance Computing

Abstract

We will survey the I/O software stack on Blue Gene /Q andLinux clusters, touching on file system, MPI-IO, and higher level interfaces such as Parallel-NetCDF and HDF5.  We will discuss some of the tools and approaches available to scientists trying to understand performance bottlenecks, focusing on the Darshan lightweight statistics tool. We will conclude with a quick survey of ongoing research ideas.
