Investigating the Explosions, Environments, and Progenitors of Supernova Remnants

Abstract

Supernovae (SNe) are routinely detected through dedicated surveys, but most are often too distant (~1-100 Mpc) to resolve the SN ejecta and immediate surroundings of the exploded stars. Supernova remnants (SNRs) offer the means to study explosions and dynamics at sub-pc scales. In this talk, I will review recent advances in the understanding of SNe based on studies of SNRs, particularly based on their morphologies, nucleosynthesis, and the stellar populations around them. Additionally, I will compare these observational constraints to predictions from recent, high-fidelity SN explosion models.
