Visiting the SOC

VLBA users are welcome to visit the SOC to analyze their observations.  Reservations must be made through an online form, at least one week prior to the visit; two weeks' notice is preferred.  Requirements for computing hardware and staff assistance must also be specified via the online form.

First-time visiting students must be accompanied by a faculty advisor, an experienced collaborator, or have an NRAO staff collaborator.

Lodging options include the NRAO Guest House, located on the campus of New Mexico Tech (NMIMT), a short walk from the SOC.  This facility contains eight single, four double, and two two-bedroom apartments, plus a lounge/kitchen and laundry, and can be requested directly on the online visitor reservation form.  Many commercial motels are available on or near California St., Socorro's main thoroughfare.  Typical walking time to NRAO is 20-30 minutes.

Travel support is available for U.S.-based observers, including students, to travel to NRAO to reduce data.  Please see Travel Support for NRAO Observing Runs and Data Reduction for Non-NRAO Employees for details of eligibility and how to claim reimbursement.
